The working group researches, develops and consults in both nitride ceramics and ceramics with tailored electrical functions. The focus of our research are silicon nitride, sialons but also other structural ceramics having a high electrical conductivity or high electrical insulation properties, and are particularly suitable for applications in the high-temperature range due to their excellent chemical and mechanical stability.
For high-temperature application areas, ceramic matrix composites (CMC) and environment barrier coatings (EBC) on the basis of oxide and non-oxide ceramic systems are developed and tested.

The development of materials and the adaptation of mechanical, electrical and thermal properties are supported by a wide range of application-specific characterization methods. In collaboration with the research groups of our institute we provide a closed material and component manufacturing technology for all areas of our group in order to lead materials with tailored properties to prototypes.

For specific construction and property related requirements, we are developing a ceramic-orientated technology to join different material components.
