Permanent component labeling for high temperature processed metal components (PERMA-HIGH)

Project

The goal of PERMA-HIGH is to broaden the application base of Ceracode® technology. To this end, the consortium of experts in the fields of ink development, component marking, metal materials research and metal processing is implementing the following points:

  • Identification of process conditions, material aspects and technical requirements for the implementation of marking hardware for relevant metal processes
  • Test implementation of two printer types (drop-on-demand (DOD) and continuous ink jet (CIJ)) in production-relevant environments
  • Lab-scale and in-situ testing of current temperature-resistant ink formulations and adaptation of formulations to process conditions

This work will lead to the expansion of the application base for existing marking hardware and inks, the development of new inks and printer/scanner hardware, deepened track-and-trace capabilities, and improved processes for metal processing. In perspective, this will allow currently unmarked metal parts to be marked directly, providing greater visibility into the production chain and the ability to assign process parameters to individual products. By extending the marking approach into the high-temperature range, all companies involved in the value chain will benefit from the possibilities of process data acquisition and evaluation, improved quality assurance, faster process optimization, and ultimately the reduction of costs and resources used.
