The “Machine and Production Design” group at Fraunhofer IKTS in Arnstadt ensures the design and construction of customer-specific equipment and test benches, right up to complete systems and machines. It provides the infrastructure and resources to efficiently, flexibly, and tailor-made design and implement specially developed manufacturing, measurement, or other processes for customers and project partners.

The team supports customers throughout the entire process chain – from the definition and design of processes to the construction of appropriate structures, apparatuses, or machines, the selection and, if necessary, development of suitable measurement and testing technology (destructive [NDE], non-destructive [NDT]), and finally to the construction, including automation, sensor technology, and data connection. The working group's range of services also includes technical and economic evaluation and the reconfiguration of existing plants or plant components.

In close cooperation with other research areas of the “Industrial Data Technologies” working group, customers can obtain specific data technology equipment and connections via a portfolio of interfaces (OPC-UA, TCP/IP, MODBUS, etc.) on request. This enables a deeper understanding of the procedural relationships, from which scenarios for improving industrial workflows or the processes themselves can be derived.
