The aim of this project is to research and develop capillary AEM water electrolysis for green hydrogen. The physical fundamentals for understanding ion and mass transport are being established and a scalable concept for components and cells is being developed. This new technology aims to combine the advantages of capillary electrolysis according to Wallace et al. with innovative anion exchange membrane water electrolysis technology. In a Nature paper from 2022, efficiencies of 98% were already achieved at a current density of 0.5 A/cm2.
