THAWE 2X – Thuringian alkaline water electrolysis for Power-2-X processes

The aim of the project is to work with various industrial partners to develop a hydrogen technology based on alkaline water electrolysis that offers significant advantages over established technology. The following properties and topics will be addressed:

  • Reducing energy consumption and increasing gas purity by developing a novel catalyst-coated polymer membrane
  • Reducing stack costs by designing stack components in the context of “design for manufacturing”
  • Improving the dynamic coupling of green water electrolysis and Power-2-X by designing an electrolyzer for particularly high load cycles and an output pressure of up to 50 bar

Duration: January 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027

Partners: EPC Engineering & Technologies GmbH, R&R BETH GmbH, Merkle & CAE Solutions GmbH, WIR!-Bündnis h2-well*, MUW Screentec GmbH* (* Associated partner)

The project, funded by the Free State of Thuringia, was co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
