Mobile ultrasonic testing device approved for use on Deutsche Bahn rail network
The SoniQ Rail Explorer (SRE) mobile ultrasonic testing device has been in operations successfully on various European and Asian railways for several years. It has now been approved for use on the German DB rail network.
The SRE was developed at Fraunhofer IKTS for Vossloh Rail Services GmbH. It is an ultrasonic device which offers railway track testing and collects various data with just one measuring system in a single test run. The ultrasonic testing wheel reliably and precisely detects and locates defects inside the railway track, corrosion at the rail foot, and irregularities in welds.
A total of nine test probes identify irregularities in real time. The findings are synchronized and visualized in various displays (both A-scan and B-scan). Modern data interfaces ensure easy integration into digitized process chains.
With its compact design and low weight of only around 20 kilograms, the SRE is easy to transport. The testing device is therefore particularly suitable for pinpointing the exact location of previously detected flaws, for regular inspections on shorter sections of track, in switches and crossings, at level crossings, and in stations.
