Australia is one of the world’s most important hubs for raw materials and energy and is consistently driving the transition toward a sustainable and technology-driven industry. The Fraunhofer IKTS is actively engaged on the ground alongside partners from academia and industry to develop innovative solutions for resource utilization, the energy transition, and industrial transformation.

Since 2025, we have been operating the “Ideas to Industry” research and innovation lab in Western Australia in collaboration with Edith Cowan University (ECU). Through this initiative, we connect German and Australian companies, strengthen scientific and technological exchange, and create a platform for joint projects. The focus is on topics such as the extraction and recycling of critical raw materials, water treatment, electrolysis, and energy storage, as well as innovative materials and processes.

As a development partner, we support companies throughout the entire innovation chain – from application-oriented research through pilot plants to industrial implementation.
