Fraunhofer IKTS offers methods, sensors and test equipment for various types of non-destructive testing and monitoring. Key activities in the rail sector are wheelset testing (ultrasonic technology for longitudinally bored wheelset shafts, solid shafts, wheelset and shaft testing in installed and dismantled condition) as well as the inspection of rail infrastructure (ultrasonic technology for overhead lines and rails). Digitalization also plays a major role in IKTS inspection solutions. Examples include the evaluation or visualization of complex data volumes. Adapted augmented reality systems from Fraunhofer IKTS are already being used successfully today.
