Multifunctional Materials and Components

Group

We have special expertise in the field of piezoceramic and dielectric advanced ceramics which have actuating, sensing and electrical functions in monolithic devices and material composites with polymers, metals, glasses and other ceramics.

Current research is focused on lead-free piezoceramics, textured piezoceramics, PZT thick films, piezoelectric fiber composites and oxide functional layers for microelectronics. In search of new material systems high-throughput methods are developed and used.

In the field of thick-film, multilayer and piezocomposite technologies we offer closed technological chains. Their combination with unique design and characterization tools enables new developments in piezotechnology, adaptronics/mechatronics, microsystems engineering and microenergy technology. CVD, PVD and sol-gel methods as well as reactive ion etching for structuring are used to realize thin films.

Services offered

  • Sensor, actor and capacitor materials (powder and sol-gel technologies as well as ion etching)
  • Piezoceramic thick films and piezoceramic multilayers (screen printing, tape casting, templated grain growth)
  • Composite components/mechanical machining (CAD-CAM-CNC)/piezo fiber technology
