Fraunhofer IKTS is expanding its activities in the field of transparent ceramics. The transparent and extremely resilient material is used, for example, in displays or on industrial machinery.

The development and production of transparent ceramics at Fraunhofer IKTS will achieve a considerable leap in performance with the new technical infrastructure. Institute Director Prof. Alexander Michaelis emphasizes: "We are very pleased to be able to consistently expand our decades-long and world-leading expertise in the field of transparent ceramics through this step. This will enable us to meet the requirements of our partners even better."

Transparent ceramics are used wherever transparency coupled with the highest degree of durability is required, for example in optical and sensory applications, in ballistic protection, in the architectural sector or in medical technology.
