High-temperature sensor heads made of silicon nitride for temperature and pressure measurement in engines and turbines
Fluid dynamic measurement technology and fluid mechanics is a building block for increasing the efficiency of thermal turbomachinery, which includes gas turbines and aircraft engines. Previous measurement solutions are not possible due to the high temperatures in gas turbines or are indirect (costly, inaccurate) and lead to efficiency losses. The aim of the research project is therefore to validate an additively manufactured probe head made of silicon nitride and to demonstrate its technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness for use as a probe head for flow and temperature measurement at high operating temperatures of up to 1400 °C and high flow velocities in the field of aviation and turbine technology. The validation objectives of the project range from the verification of reproducible and reliable material characteristics, the evaluation of process reliability and reproducibility to the functional verification of the probe head demonstrator and calibration in the wind tunnel.
