Competence cluster Employment, infrastructure and industrial policy in transition

Background

In view of rapidly changing framework conditions, trade union and political actors in co-determination processes need precise, interdisciplinary orientation knowledge based on applied socio- and techno-economic research. A competence cluster called “Employment, infrastructure and industrial policy in the transformation” is being set up by the Hans Böckler Foundation from three institutions: Fraunhofer IKTS, Halle site (competence areas region, employment, infrastructure, industrial policy), the Center for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC) of the University of Leeds (competence areas employees, international comparison) and the economic research institute WifOR from Darmstadt (competence areas demand for skilled workers, qualification requirements).

Project description

In this three-year project, Fraunhofer IKTS is developing methods for economic evaluation, employment effects and skilled labor requirements that will strengthen the profile of the Department of Technology Economics and Management. The focus of the scientific questions enables co-determination actors to make well-founded decisions in transformation processes. Dossiers and studies on topics such as trade relations with China (de-risking processes) and the chemical industry in East Germany are produced in cooperation with the Hans Böckler Foundation. Further focal points in the area of economic transformation and trade will be defined in the course of the project.
