The hot forging industry is an important economic sector in Europe. However, current trends and events pose major challenges for the European forging industry. This concerns, for example, forging lines for automotive parts, forgings for aviation and components for the oil and gas sector.
Digitizing production processes requires, on the one hand, the linking of products, production machines and processing staff. On the other hand, a complete digital description of the processes in data models is essential. This involves merging product data with information from the production processes. A seamless recording of all components along the entire value chain is essential for this, for example in the form of labeling of components, semi-finished products and products. High temperatures and harsh environmental conditions are a major challenge, which is why there are no technical solutions on the market. This is where the Optforge-iTrack project aims to come in and develop innovative high-temperature marking solutions as a prerequisite for monitoring and tracking forged parts in the sense of single-part tracing.
The cooperation project is a sub-project of the EU project “OPTFORGE” in the EUREKA cluster “SMART - Advanced Manufacturing”.
