Temperature-resistant marking of metal components for track and trace applications using glass particles for adhesion promotion (KennTrace)

At present, not all issues relating to individual component marking have been satisfactorily resolved in the metal industry. Specifically, there is a need for the temperature range between 200 and 700 °C for aluminum and steel surfaces that are to be painted without silicone resin after production, for example. In many cases, both temperature and paintability cannot be addressed with available marking solutions. The KennTrace project is therefore developing inks for printing with e .g. data matrix codes, which are based on organic (up to max. 400 °C) or inorganic adhesion promoters (glass pigments for 400 to 700 °C). The inorganic adhesion promoters allow a material bond between the ink pigments and the component surface as part of the temperature treatment during metal processing. The partners involved in the project are developing master suspension, inks, process integration concepts and an application prototype (printing system adapted to inks).
