The technology is regarded as a future market with a high density of applications in several areas such as sensors, packaging and interconnection or OLED technology. Behind the trend there is a cost-efficient printing process in which electronic components and circuits can be applied to carrier materials and reproduced as required.

Instead of printing colors, electronic functional materials are used in liquid or paste form. The functionalized layers are printed on top of each other and form electrical circuits on high-performance electronic components.

IKTS researchers will show thick-film pastes and nanoinks that were specifically developed at Fraunhofer IKTS for direct writing methods, such as ink- or aerosol-jet printing, to deposit functional layers. A broad base of experience and continuous research in this field make it possible to customize the properties of the materials used for each application.
