JEC World International Composites Event
JEC World gathers the whole value chain of the composite materials industry in Paris, France every year. It presents a unique showcase of what composites can offer to various application sectors, from aerospace to marine, from construction to automotive.
The Fraunhofer IKTS uses this platform to present an eddy-current sensor system for non-destructive testing of ceramic matrix composites in roll-to-roll processes at the joint booth of the Saxony Economic Development Corporation.
Non-destructive testing of NCF in full production width
Testing multiaxial high-performance carbon fiber fabrics (NCF) in full production width is still a challenge, as common optical test systems just monitor the surface of the material. If you want to look inside the material to inspect hidden layers, new approaches are needed.
For this purpose, researchers at Fraunhofer IKTS developed a multi-channel eddy-current system. The modular sensor line system fully tests CF textiles up to 2.5 m machine width inline. A demonstrator system, based on the industrial proven IKTS EddyCus® Pro-II Eddy-Current hardware, will be presented at the joint booth of the Saxony Economic Development Corporation.
