Heating elements made of zirconium carbide

Zirconium carbide (ZrC) can be directly electrically heated in exactly the same way as metallic heating conductor materials and impresses with an extremely low vapor pressure at temperatures above 2000 °C and a high melting point of over 3500 °C. Compared to proven refractory metals, the metal-like ceramic is also lighter and free of critical raw materials.

By means of pressureless sintering, large-format, high-density ZrC heating elements with a length of up to 250 mm can be manufactured cost-effectively.

All-ceramic temperature sensor up to 2200°C

The combination of advanced ceramic technologies with innovative ceramic materials enables the production of all-ceramic temperature sensors that can be used without thermowells up to 2200 °C and under high mechanical, abrasive or corrosive loads for long periods of time. Measurement accuracy and temperature sensitivity are improved over metallic elements. In addition, options are available for in-situ calibration, aging compensation and precision enhancement via the reference junction.

Additively manufactured SiSiC foam ceramics for use in porous burners

Open-cell silicon infiltrated SiC (SiSiC) is used in porous burners due to its high oxidation resistance, good thermal conductivity and thermal emission. Compared to conventional burners, this results in significantly more intensive combustion with uniform temperature distribution, low pollutant emission, a wide modulation range and higher efficiency. The additive manufacturing of foam-like ceramic burner structures makes it possible to specifically influence the flow-through and thus combustion properties, and to avoid the formation of hotspots.

The structures were developed as part of the KMU innovativ joint project “AMSIC” (funding code 03XP0270) and are being tested by promeos GmbH.
