Sensor Space Summer School by Fraunhofer IKTS

Feel the beat! Build your own heart monitor!

The Sensor Space Summer School at Fraunhofer IKTS is going into the second year! You are already interested in electronics and circuit schematics - or you always wanted to learn more about it but never had the chance? You also want to use the summer vacations to learn something new? Then join the Sensor Space Summer School in Hermsdorf/Thuringia!

At the Sensor Space Summer School 2022 you will dive into the world of biosignals together with researchers at Fraunhofer IKTS. How does your heart actually work and how can heartbeats be measured and made visible?

In the Summer School, which we will take place in the Sensor Space at BSZ Hermsdorf, you will learn more about the biological basics of your heart and how the devices for measuring the heartbeat have changed over time. Measuring devices are constantly used in everyday research at Fraunhofer. We will show you how they work and how to ensure that measurement results are constant and precise.

You will get an introduction to how electronic components and circuits work. Based on an electrical circuit diagram for a heart monitor, we will show you how to solder on your own and then build your own ECG device. During an excursion to the Waldkliniken Eisenberg, medical specialists and technicians will explain to you how heart monitors and other measuring devices for biosignals are used in everyday clinical practice.

At the end of the week you will be able to measure your own heart sounds with your self-made heart monitor and you will have received basic knowledge about electronic circuit diagrams, the calibration of measuring devices and the construction of your own measuring systems. We are looking forward to an exciting week with you!
